If you had a XP runnign without the updates its user's fault! You cannot expect CCP to test every operatign system under every possible update status ( several hundreds of possible combinations)

Just because you have all the patches from Mircrsoft does not mean you are immune... I work as a Tech Support rep for a computer firm in the UK and we tested this out with EVERY RELEASE of Windows XP (Home/Pro/Media Centre/64Bit) and we installed all the Microsoft updates that were available on these systems as if they were going out to customers and EVERY SINGLE ONE of them was affected by this...
If you dont know what you are talking about please do all the people that are looking for help on this situation a favour and STFU until you get a clue...

Yes you could give it a try. You could also do as someone else mentioned and that is try and log into windows under safe mode.

100% of the cases here could have been prevented had CCP done a proper audit of the code that they implemented in the update.
The are proud of the fact that they have a quality control department but it looks like they were drunk when this patch came through their office.

Unfortunatly Safe mode still requires Windows to be recognised...it failed
I didn't think it would but it was worth a try.
I hope you get this sorted soon. I also hope you have a REALLY long skill training :p
